Want to support people navigating the benefits system in a practical way?

Benefits Claim Support Volunteer

Working closely with our supportive Benefits for Better Mental Health staff team, our Benefits Claim Support Volunteers help make the process of claiming benefits less stressful for our clients. In this role, you will support people to make and update benefit claims, fill in forms, and understand their benefit entitlement.

Training Required: Oxfordshire Mind Volunteer Induction Training one-day course, plus Benefits for Better Mental Health training, and two days of shadowing. No previous experience with the benefit system is required.

Time commitment: One four hour session a week for a minimum of three months, at our office in East Oxford.

“In this brief journey with the client just one’s presence may be needed to alleviate some of the stress… A couple of clients have stated that ‘I wouldn’t have been able to go through it without you’. This gives me a sense of satisfaction that I have helped someone in some way.”
