Youth in Mind Berkshire Webinars 2024

This year, Youth in Mind Berkshire will be hosting a series of webinars designed to expand the knowledge and skills of everyone working with children and young people across Berkshire. We understand that you’re stretched for time and funds too, so these free, one-hour, online sessions are designed to give you the opportunity to learn from experts, but of equal importance, young people too, about how best to support their mental health and wellbeing.

Autism and Anxiety
Dr Luke Beardon

Dr Luke Beardon is Senior Lecturer in The Autism Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. He has been working as a practitioner providing support and consultancy in the field of autism and Asperger syndrome for around 20 years.

Luke recognises that there are massively high levels of anxiety amongst the autistic population – but at the same time is of the believe that anxiety is not a part of being autistic. He argues that it is the combination of autism and the environment that leads to anxiety, and that it is society’s responsibility to seek to alter the environment to reduce anxiety. In his talk Luke will outline how anxiety within the autistic population should be understood, and what can be done to reduce the risk of it occurring.

Luke is co-editor of five books on autism and sole author of an additional five books including Autism and Asperger Syndrome in Childhood and What Works for Autistic Children. Luke has won several awards for his inspirational teaching.
