“I have watched the group expand and become a very close group, welcoming and homely. I am getting a great deal of satisfaction when enabling others to achieve things they never thought possible.”

Current Wellbeing Service Volunteer

The Wellbeing Service offers a range of services that help people in their journey to improved wellbeing and better mental health, including our Peer Support Groups and Safe Haven crisis support service. Wellbeing Service Volunteers help out in either our Peer Support Groups or Safe Haven.

Peer Support Groups focus on a range of activities including art, cooking, reading and music. Volunteers help to welcome people, and encourage them to engage in activities. The groups take place in locations across Oxfordshire, in Wokingham, and online, and are mostly during the daytime, Mon-Fri.

Safe Haven is a safe space for people who are in mental health crisis. Volunteers help to welcome people, providing a calming distraction space, and supporting them to engage in gentle activities or seek support from staff. They may also support with referral calls for people accessing the service. Safe Haven’s in person space is open from 6pm – 10pm, 7 days a week in Oxford, and Fri – Mon in Banbury.

Training required: Oxfordshire Mind Volunteer Induction Training one day course, and half day wellbeing service training. Additional e-learnings for volunteers joining Safe Haven.

Time commitment: We ask for a commitment of 1 session per week (2 – 4 hours) for a minimum of 3 months. Volunteers should arrive before the session and stay for a debrief with staff at the end.
